Coast guard regulations require that there be a life jacket for every passenger aboard a boat. The houseboats come with jackets, but if you're going to be on a platform or your boat will exceed it's recommended capacity, you will need a life jacket. Here's one that's reasonably stylish and relatively inexpensive:

You may also wish to acquire a whistle and a floating, strobing,
flashlight. If you fall overboard, it's easier to blow a whistle than
it is to scream. If you fall in the water at night, a strobing
flashlight will help rescuers realize you're in the water and find
you.
