Here's how you lose your freedom. This same process has been used to strip us of many other freedoms we used to enjoy with respect to speech, guns, abortion, travel, finances, medicine, employment, and drugs.

"First they ban smoking in airplanes, public transportation, and government buildings, very reasonable and I don't think any smoker ever gave it a second thought.

Then they said, you can still smoke but you have to have your own section. Nobody batted an eye

Then they said you can still smoke but you have to go on the patio. Smokers said, "Fair enough"

Then they said you can still smoke but you have to go out the front door (and you cannot take your drink with you). Some smokers started questioning this.

Then they said you can still smoke but you have to be 15 feet away from the front door.

Then they said you can still smoke but you have to be 20 feet away from any and every door.

Then they said you can still smoke but not in any parks or on any public land, including city parks, rest stops, school property, government property, hospital property, and beaches. You can still smoke but you have to go out to the sidewalk.

Then they said you can still smoke just as long as you don't live in a multi-residient unit where any of the units have home schooling or daycare facilities.

Then they said you can still smoke but you cannot in your own car if you are with a person under the age of 18

Then they said you can still smoke, but you cannot on your own property if your smoke drifts into a neighbors property.

Then they said you can still smoke, but you cannot get a job in the health care field if you do, it's your choice.

Then they said you cannot use any tobacco, no dip, snuff, or chew anywhere smoking is banned.

Then they said you cannot even use a vaporizer anywhere smoking is banned.

They also banned all advertisements for cigarettes, they banned all flavors of cigarettes, and they taxed the hell out of them. They started putting warnings on the packages and told the industry they cannot use mascots, slogans, or even words that are not 'colors' on the packages.

Then they started an advertising campaign that made smokers out to be monsters, blatant government funded propaganda against smokers. To the point where even a 3 year old child will, without hesitation, publicly shame a smoker. Government funded Radio and TV ads run constantly, being pumped into homes vilifying smokers and tobacco.

All the while the price of cigarettes went for ~$10 a carton in 1990 to over $100 a carton in some places today.

TLDR:
If you don't think the government can ban something without actually 'banning' something look no further then the tobacco industry.

They know what they are doing, they have already done it with tobacco, and they are doing it with guns and ammo today. What seems reasonable at first will slowly become insane but nobody will even care.

In the end you will be the crazy one for even questioning it."
