The Signal app from Open Whisper Systems is probably the current best app for privacy conscious messaging. There\'s now a version for the desktop in beta. They\'re now recruiting beta testers, so if you like Signal, please consider signing up. Note that if you do, I get bumped higher in the queue, so this entreaty is not entirely altruistic. :)
