# John As someone who prefers quiet conversation to a bumping dance...

*March 2, 2016 — Comment Scott Riz Rizzo's post*

John As someone who prefers quiet conversation to a bumping dance floor, I'm sympathetic to the desire to reduce/redirect/eliminate unwanted sound. I also understand that many people like big sound, and I'm appreciative of how much time/money/effort that Scott and his crew put into bringing Bump Bed to Ephemerisle (to the tune of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours). I've met Rizzo, and I think that he genuinely cares about people and I think he's sincere in his desire to accommodate as much as possible those who want more quiet. Although I think there's an inherent conflict between those who want big sound, and those who want quiet, I think with better coordination, we can (mostly) satisfy both preferences. I know the team leads of Titan are taking steps to do so, and I believe Scott will as well. In any case, I find aggressive attacks on other people to be unpleasant. For example, accusing someone of rape, even as a joke or metaphor, is a serious charge. I also think that comparing enduring unwanted sound to rape downplays the harm that actual rape victims suffer. Aggressive attacks also tend to provoke a "Fuck you, I'll do what I want." response. Please continue to offer your insights--few people have as much experience putting on a show as you do. But also, may I ask that you treat the other people at Ephemerisle with more kindness and respect? With rare exceptions, I think most are trying to do the right thing, and doing so would make the experience much more pleasant overall.
