Aaron Muszalski asks \'For some time now I've wondered: what single question could most effectively identify whether someone is of my tribe or not.\'\
\
I think we belong to many overlapping tribes, and a single question can\'t handle all the tribes. For example, \"What\'s your favorite H.R. Giger painting?\" might identify someone who belongs to my tribe in art, but they won\'t necessarily be my tribe with respect to say, gun politics.\
\
However, if we tweak the question a bit to \'What single question would most effectively identify someone who belongs to the highest number of the most important tribes to me?\' my answer would be:\
\
\"What is your opinion of ticket scalping?\"\
\
Some other questions I like:\
\
\"What is the most beautiful thing you\'ve ever seen?"\
\
\"What do you do that\'s worth doing even if it fails?\"\
\
\"Tell me about a time that you changed your mind about something significant to you."\
\
\"Do you like Tom Waits?"\
\
"Is it safe?"\
\
\"In a certain light, wouldn\'t nuclear war be exciting?\"
