I think liberal intolerance has to do with explanatory style. Liberals tend to think those who disagree with them do so because they're evil. Conservatives and libertarians tend to think those who disagree do so because they're stupid or ignorant. Ignorance can be corrected, and stupid isn't your fault. But evil is irredeemable.
