East Palo Alto has a reputation for a high violent crime rate. Here\'s a comparison of EPA to other select cities (rates are violent crimes per 1000 people/year):\

California average: 3.96\
East Palo Alto: 4.22\
Los Angeles: 4.89\

Relative to its neighboring cities, EPA\'s crime rate is more than double or triple. However, relative to the California average, it\'s near the middle.\

I\'m surprised the Santa Cruz crime rate is so high and that the crime rate in Los Angeles is so low.\
