# Shower thought: I wonder if the Kavanagh controversy could've been…

Shower thought: I wonder if the Kavanagh controversy could\'ve been avoided by a change in the nomination process:\
\
1. The majority party nominates ten potential Supreme Court justices to a pool.\
2. The minority party is given a fixed window to vet each of them, and they can discard up to five justices from the pool.\
3. One of them is selected at random with no further vetting by the minority party.\
\
This way, the majority party still gets to pick the nominee, but the minority party can weed out the worst options. But they can\'t stall the process, since they have a fixed window to make their picks.\
\
It could even be done on a rolling basis, so that each side has years to do investigations.\
\
Would there be incentive to adopt this process unilaterally? I don\'t see how it would hurt the majority party.
