A lot of women want to marry and have kids, but are unable to find partners that meet their standards (height, income, educational status, etc).
However, it seems to me that they could separate "parental partner" and "sexual partner" and "biological father" roles.
For example, if you're a straight woman who has not found an adequate partner, why not find another straight woman who wants to do the same, and raise kids together?
It would mean giving up on a committed relationship with a man, most likely, but then you both could have kids without "settling".
Thoughts on why straight women don't co-parent more often?
