Want to help repopulate Singapore's Giant Grouper fish? It only costs about $100/fish.

"Hey People, Shannon here with more insights into the farming industry.

We’re looking to stock the new pond in Aljunied with these gorgeous, critically endangered but captive bred Epinephelus lanceolatus from a proper, science based, hatchery in Queensland.

Now, while we’d normally just foot the bill and fly these puppies over, our budget’s been stretched so thin, other budgets are trying to send it to the anorexia help center. We’re taking on 2 to 3 new properties and 3 to 4 new full time staff over the next 2 years. It’s nuts, but absolutely necessary if I want to be in control of everything that goes into your box and grow big enough to do proper environmental conservation work.

So... Here’s what I’m thinking; You can pre-order the 5-10g fingerlings for $20 each.

“What do I do with a baby giant?!” You ask? Here’s a few options;

1. Leave them on my new farm and we’ll raise them for you. They can be raised in fresh or sea water.

2. Take them home and raise them yourself! Just remember to eat it before it eats you. Be warned; This fish is literally NOT HDB APPROVED after it exceeds 3ft.

3. Release them after they get big enough. E. lanceolatus are native to Singapore and were traditionally considered the thing that separated the fisherboys from the fishermen. Right now they’ve been fished to extinction locally. Honestly, I think they’re the crown jewel of Singapore’s marine ecosystems. We will of course, have to ask nParks for permission before letting them go.

4. Sell it to a pet shop. They’re very sought after in the aquarium trade. Polyart Aquarium currently has one specimen going for $388. I’m sure to get an angry call from them about this tomorrow 😂

Anyway, if you’re interested, let me know in the comments and feel free to ask questions too. And yes; the biggest specimens will be on display at our Dempsey farm and you can interact with them.

Edit: Ok... I wasn’t expecting everyone to want me to raise the fish for you. Don’t you guys know all my fish die horribly?

Anyway, fish food costs $4/kg. And your fish will gain 1kg of body weight for every 2kg of food it eats(up to 10kg). So decide how fat a fish you want. Then multiply that by $8. Eg. a 10kg fish will cost you $80 of food.

Mind you, this is just a rule of thumb. In extreme cases, 20kg of food can result in a 2.5kg or a 16kg fish."
