"The gentleman on the left is William Sinker Darby. He was a recording engineer for the American Gramophone Company. He made the very first sound recordings ever in many European countries (in 1898).
Theodore Birnbaum (on the right) was one of the founders of the Berlin Gramophone company. He was also the artist who designed the original Angel Records logo which was used by Gramophone in countries where the Nipper/His Masters Voice logo was owned by another company (usually RCA Victor).
The dog in the photo is certainly not the original Nipper (from the painting on which the trademarked image was based) because the painting was done three years after Nipper had died. This movie was shot two years after that.
This video was probably recovered from a set of Mutoscope cards in the collection of the EMP archive."
