When it came to privacy, I used to be of the opinion "My life is an open book. I have nothing to hide."

Since then, however, I've become a lot more cautious about sharing personal information. Part of that stems from the fact that two former "friends" threatened to try to get me blackballed with our mutual friends based on posts I'd made to Facebook. I don't think anything came of it since most people are lazy (though how would I know the events I was not invited to due to their efforts).

But what if I pissed off someone who was more vindictive and/or obsessive?

A lot of people discover too late that the person they love is obsessive and vindictive, to the point that they will try to kill them.

And many people discover they need privacy only after they inadvertently trigger the internet's ire with a thoughtless tweet or post.

In addition, over the last decade or so, SJW's started to more vigorously deplatform "undesirables" from the companies they control. I'm probably unhireable at Google or Facebook now, for example, based on my political beliefs. (And if you're an SJW, just imagine what a vindictive Trump administration official could do to you.)

I encourage everyone who thinks that they don't need privacy to listen to the four part series "How to Disappear" (Episodes 182, 184, 186, and 188) on the Privacy, Security, and OSINT show here:

Becoming more privacy conscious all at once can seem overwhelming at first. And it's very hard to hide completely from a well-funded and determined attacker.

But if you take it one step at a time, and gradually improve your security, you can do a lot to reduce your risk without much effort.

I recommend starting by switching to more secure messaging programs. The OSINT podcast has a good review of the upsides/downsides of the messaging platforms here:

Personally, I'm a fan of Signal, Session, and Matrix. Let me know if you'd like to be added on any of those platforms.
