\
\> but having a company aiming for steady financial growth from providing health care is far worse, as we\'ve seen\
\
Companies often do perform terribly I agree. But how does creating a monopoly with the power to put you in a cage if you don\'t pay improve matters? Why are monopolies by private companies bad, but monopolies by state actors good? Is there some reason to believe that humans become saints when they enter government service, unsullied by greed, laziness, and incompetence?\
\
\> overseen by members of congress,\
\
You\'re argument is that \_Congress\_, is going to provide adequate oversight over state-run healthcare system?!? What reason is there to believe that Mitch McConnell and crew are able/willing to effectively root out corruption and wasteful spending, or ensure high quality service?\
\
\> the entire legal system \[will provide oversight over a state-run healthcare system\]\
\
Last I heard, private companies are also subject to the legal system.\
\
\> but i dont want to hear \[free market healthcare\] unless there\'s an example of it working the way you say ON A NATIONAL SCALE\
\
Note the catch 22. You won\'t even listen to evidence about how free market healthcare can do a better job than state run health care, unless the evidence comes from a national scale program.\
\
But how is a national free market healthcare system going to come into existence to provide such evidence, if people like you force everyone to participate in state-run healthcare systems?\
\
\> what happens in this mythical system when numerous bad options are the only competitors as in the US?\
\
We have bad options in the US largely due to bad government regulation.\
\
For example, Martin Shkreli was able to jack up the price of Daraprim from \$17.50/dose to \$750/dose even though it was a generic out of patent because any new competitor would\'ve still had to get an Abbreviated New Drug approval from the FDA. Getting such approval can cost up to \$20 million and take up to 50 months.\
\
FDA regulations also prevent companies from selling generics imported from overseas. So Shkreli knew he would have a state enforced monopoly for at least a year before a competitor would appear. You can read more about it here:\

\
By contrast, in a truly free market without FDA regulations, doctors would\'ve been able to immediately switch to Indian providers of the same drug, who charge pennies per pill. Or, us competitors would\'ve been able to immediately begin manufacturing and selling the drug for much less than Shkreli was charging.\
\
Yes, Shkreli is a greedy and selfish person. But he was only able to cause harm in the way he did because of FDA regulations that allowed him to do so.
