People on the left like to complain that the rich aren't paying their "fair" share of taxes. Here's a chart from a progressive think tank that shows how much total taxes people pay at each quintile pay, relative to their total income.

If you think the rich should pay more taxes, what do you think the chart _should_ look like? How much more must the rich pay before you would agree they've paid their "fair" share?

"The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, or ITEP, a progressive Washington, D.C. think tank, [studies how much people pay in total taxes] in detail. Each year, they publish a report called “Who Pays Taxes in America?”

This graph is taken from their latest edition and is a projection for 2019.

What this shows is that, when you take all U.S. taxes into account — federal income taxes, federal payroll taxes, federal corporate taxes, the federal estate tax, federal excise taxes, and the plethora of state and local taxes — the U.S. tax system is just mildly progressive."
