Michelle Tandler, a lifelong SF progressive, wonders aloud: Why does a city that has long been utterly dominated by progressives do such a terrible job of caring for the poor?\

\
Here\'s some of the excuses she\'ll hear:\
\
\* SF can\'t raise property tax high enough to provide adequate revenue because of Prop 13.\
\
\* It\'s the rest of the country\'s fault for sending their homeless to SF. Only \_national\_ domination by Democrats (and thus, a national UBI, national housing program) will prevent the rest of the country from dumping their homeless on SF\
\
\* Although SF is nominally dominated by progressives, they\'re mostly rich techies, who are selfishly concerned most about protecting their classes interests, than about actually helping the poor.\
\
\* Although the stats say that SF now has a crime rate higher than Compton, crime rates are \_down\_ relative to SF\'s crime rates in the past (just not down as much as other cities).
