\[Putting arguments here, so I can refer to them later. This will be updated over time. Abortion is a contentious issue, so please remember that the rule here is to be polite and assume good will \-- no insults or name calling allowed.\]\
\
For the record, I\'m pro-choice, but think that Roe v. Wade was a bad decision and should be reversed.\
\
\"maybe we should bring back slavery and just let individual states decide what degree of human trafficking should be legal\"\
\
In every previous dispute regarding who is fully human with all human rights (and state protection thereof)\--blacks, women, Jews\--those who argued the \"against\" case are now regarded as moral monsters.\
\
If states wanted to let slaveowners murder their slaves at will as the slaves weren\'t fully human (when, in fact, they are), then almost all libertarians would also argue that the national government should step in then as well. (As well as step in to stop the slavery in the first place.)\
\
Likewise, if a mother plunged an ice pick in her baby\'s head shortly after birth, she would be regarded as a murderer. So, why is she not a murderer if she asks a physician to do it for her shortly before birth? If the state should step in to stop her after birth, why not before?\
\
It seems to me that the time when the fetus is fully deserving of human rights, and what should be done when they come in conflict with the mother\'s rights is a question over which reasonable people can disagree. When there is no clear consensus, I think it\'s best not to let one side impose their view on everyone else, but rather let people self-assort into the states that share their views.\
\
\"All you have to do is look at countries that prohibit abortion, particularly in South america, to see how these laws are abused and how women suffer for them.\"\
\
Abortion rights can also cause suffering, for both men and women. For example, in China, female fetuses were aborted at much higher rates than male fetuses. This has resulted in an imbalance of men vs women. In addition to the opportunity cost of those absent women, tens of millions of men with zero prospect of finding a mate or family is likely to be very destabilizing:
