What is counted as a positive depends on your politics. If you're a socialist, you're always going to be mad about cryptocurrencies because they allow people to more easily avoid the taxes and regulations that socialists want to impose upon them. The more people switch to crypto, the less socialists can spend other people's money by devaluing their currency. If you're a censor, you're always going to be mad because crypto helps people avoid censorship. If you're prude, warmonger, protectionist, or a nativist, you're always going to be mad because crypto will help people avoid anti-smut laws, wartime capital controls, protectionist regulations, and immigration suppression laws. Here are some other positives: * People who live in countries which have destroyed their currencies can use cryptocurrencies to keep their savings with less fear that they will be seized. * People who live in countries that have been cut off from the global banking system due bad government policies (Russia, Ukraine) can still buy and sell with cryptocurrencies. * Whistleblowers and people who protest the government can do so with less fear that they will be persecuted by the government by cutting off their access to the financial system. * People can buy drugs online with less fear of being put in prison, or enduring violence. * Sex workers can accept payments without fear that they will be cut off from the financial system, or spied upon by the government. * People trapped in authoritarian dictatorships with capital controls can flee the country with most of their funds intact. * You can buy goods and services from all over the world, even if Mastercard / Visa / Paypal have written them off.
