Abolishing slavery took a century, a civil war, and was not even the main reason the war was fought. And there are a lot of people in the US (democratic socialists) who want to nationalize every major industry, and force most of the population to work for these "democratic worker collectives". Internationally, tens of millions of people were impoverished and murdered by socialists in country after country over the last century up to the present. And yet, socialism is as popular as ever, perhaps even more popular than it was in 1980's. And remember Prohibition II came after the US had already lived through the horrors of Prohibition I. Progressives, who, just a few short years ago bleated piously about corporate censorship are now full-throated supporters of suppressing anyone who doesn't kowtow to their ideology. And woke progressives utterly dominate the schools, from K-12 to universities. I'd like to be wrong, but I''m not optimistic that libertarians can win or sustain wins more broadly.
