Sometimes I encounter nativists who say something like \"I\'m not anti-immigration, I\'m anti-illegal immigration.\"\
\
Being anti-illegal immigration is the same as being anti-immigration, since the government could turn illegal immigration into legal immigration at the stroke of a pen.\
\
Since nativists don\'t support removing immigration suppression laws, it must be immigration itself that they object to.\
\
They\'re like the gun banners who say \"I\'m not anti-gun, I\'m anti-illegal guns\", but then support laws that make it almost impossible to legally acquire a gun.
