Philip Yes, nativists have a number of reasons that they oppose immigration, including fear of competition.  I'm addressing the rhetorical dodge that nativists use to try to make it seem like they just aren't hostile to immigrants. And to address that specific point, I'm sure the existing coffeeshops would love the power to ban new coffeeshops from being built, as it would increase their ability to charge more.  But nobody except the extant coffeeshops thinks that's a good idea, right?
