If it made economic sense to grow pears in the UK, they would.   Maybe Argentina has optimal pear growing conditions.  Maybe it was winter in the UK when these pears were grown.  And the UK certainly has very expensive labor relative to Thailand.   So, they grow pears in Argentina, and ship them to Thailand for processing.
