While I favor completely open borders, I also favor incremental relaxation of immigration suppression.
For example, I think all of the following could be allowed to live and work in the US without much risk of the harms nativists fear from completely open borders (crime, welfare burden, lack of assimilation):
* Anyone from UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland
* Anyone from Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, or Japan
* Anyone from Lichtenstein, Switzerland, Austria, Luxembourg, Monaco, or Belgium
* Any native born from the UAE, Jordan, or Israel
* Anyone from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Netherlands, or Denmark
* Anyone with an advanced professional degree (MD, PhD)
* Anyone with a BS in a technical field (engineering, computer science, mathematics)
* Anyone with $500 K or more in liquid assets
* Anyone who scores at 130 or above on an IQ test, or graduate level tests (MCAT, GMAT, LSAT).
Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, and Spain probably could also be added to the list without much harm.
