Joshua Zader I would say that men often know if someone is a "No" fairly quickly.  It can take longer to know if someone is a "Yes".  For example, dinner dates can only give so much information.  Long road trips, Burning Man, foreign travel in primitive conditions,  collaboration on a challenging project, etc also give vital information.  That kind of dating can take a while.
