According to this article, about 600 LGTBQ people were murdered between 1998 - 2018. (1) That works out to be about 30 per year. And that\'s murders total\--we don\'t know how many of those people were murdered for reasons unrelated to their sexuality. Matthew Shepard, for example, appears to have been killed because of a drug dispute, not because he was gay. (3)\
\
But let\'s assume that all of the murdered gay people were murdered because they were gay. Gay murders make up 0.2% of all murders (\~24,000/year). The number of gay people murdered is less than the number of children who drown in buckets each year (\~150). (2)\
\
Even if we assign all gay homicides to right wing hate, it doesn\'t seem like a very big problem to me.\
