Homophobia driven murders are a terrible tragedy, but in the broad scheme of things just aren't a big problem, IMO. There aren't that many gay murders, let alone murders committed by right wing homophobes. (At least in the US; I'm not making any claims about other countries.) I included the suicide stats about middle aged white males, because a) it's a cause of death that is far greater than homophobic murders b) it's unexpected, middle aged white males are typically portrayed as being at the top of the social hierarchy c) it's a cause of death that receives very little attention in the media (unlike gay murders).
