Forbes Island is a unique floating island event venue, currently docked at a private marina on Bradford Island near Oakley, CA. Some friends of mine bought Forbes Island several years ago, and I've been helping them to try to get it up and running. We're currently looking for caretakers who would be up for helping to restore / manage it as an event venue.
Ideal candidates would be a self-sufficient, conscientious, easy going couple/family who are seeking solitude (punctuated by bursts of sociability). Bradford Island is currently undergoing ongoing renovations so services are primitive.
Duties
* Answer questions from potential guests via phone / email
* Update listing on reservation sites such (Hipcamp, Airbnb, etc)
* Greet new guests and tenants.
* Complete minor repairs (changing lightbulbs, painting, etc)
* Arrange for contractors for major repairs as needed.
* Arrange for pre and/or post event clean up.
* Prepare financial reports to the board of directors for Seastar Marine Holding Company (the owner of Forbes Island).
* Regular inspection of facility for necessary repairs.
* Provide assistance for onsite events (answer guest questions, solve guest problems as they come up)
* Pay bills / set up autopay for bills.
* Monitor parking during special events. Assist guests with parking and transportation during events.
* Marketing outreach out to companies / NGO's / other individuals who can make use of Forbes Island.
* Arrange for vehicle / boat maintenance.
* Communicate with regulators / neighbors / vendors as needed.
Mandatory Qualifications
Friendly, easygoing personality.
Excellent writing and speaking skills.
Eagerness to learn.
Proficiency with Excel.
Hard working.
Willingness to seek help when needed.
Desirable Qualifications
Proficiency with boating, boat repair, carpentry, boat maintenance, or electrical work.
Previous experience managing hotels, bars, restaurants, B&B's, marinas, or events.
Spanish speaking ability.
Compensation
Free berth for boat or parking for RV.
10% commission on gross earnings from Forbes Island
Bonus (TBD) for meeting earnings targets
