What makes you think that the good guys will be the ones making / enforcing regulations? Regulations are typically used to protect the market position of the currently dominant market players. For example, the former chairman of the CFTC Mark Wetjen was head of FTX's regulatory compliance. FTX lobbied heavily for cryptocurrency regulations that--by coincidence, I'm sure--also banned the business models of their decentralized competitors. https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/former-cftc-commissioner-mark-wetjen-joins-ftx-us-as-head-of-policy-and-regulatory-strategy-301413833.html
