Hannah M Rosenberg FWIW, it's possible to hire surrogates that will carry one's children to term for around $60 K ($120 K in the US). While I think that a wife deserves generous and fair compensation for the costs/risks of gestation/childbirth, I don't think it necessarily warrants half the husband's income.
