Brian Trosko I think the orthogonal thesis is true. I also think AGI's will converge on a similar set of instrumental drives ( instrumental convergence ), but iterated competition will prove that voluntary trade and not attempted conquest will be a more successful strategy. However, I don't think anything short of building an AI and showing that they can live with humans peacefully will persuade you that alignment is a solved problem. (And probably not even then, seeing as how you appear to be unmoved by the fact that humans successfully co-exist with each other and with animals of lesser intelligence. )
