The "industry" doesn't want regulation.  There is no singular "industry" that "wants" anything.  Instead, there are many factions within the industry, many of which _don't_ want regulation.  _Sam Altman_, and some of the established players, wants regulation that will help them suppress the competitors that are already nipping at their heels. Altman et al are trying to take advantage of the stupidity, ignorance, and fear of Congress to set up a sweet regulatory moat for themselves.
