Brad Yes, I'm aware taxes are paid under threat of violence. Even if taxes are inherently a dark pattern, they can be made more or less dark. Before tax withholding, the government's take was less since they had to fight the taxpayer directly if the taxpayer refused to pay. Now the government relies on employers to do their dirty work for them. If you care about reducing dark patterns of behavior in the world, abolishing witholding seems like a win to me.
