And, again, let me emphasize that given that she doesn't currently have the legal protections of a traditional marriage, it's reasonable to negotiate for such protections for herself. I'm simply pointing out that if he pencils out all the costs and benefits of having a child with her, it may not work out as she expects. Also, one thing that I find off-putting about the story is that she presented him with a financial proposal (ultimatum?) that she worked out in detail in secrecy with her sister rather than with him. (Assuming that he's telling the story of how it happened accurately, which may well not be the case.) I don't have a problem with her discussing such contracts with trusted friends and family. But it seems to me that the first draft should be worked out in collaboration with her husband. (Imagine how she would feel if he and his brother worked out a detailed contract--with timetables and fee schedules for her to follow--without consulting with her first). It suggests a degree of adversarialness that sends up a red flag for me.
