Stephen Friedman Agree with your analysis.  If Trump had given up when the Supreme Court refused to hear his election-rigging cases, he'd be in a much better position now. I think Trump's support for abortion restrictions helped him with evangelicals as well.  (Even though I don't believe he's sincere).  Repealing Roe v. Wade is a big win for them.   (I'm pro-choice, but think Roe v. Wade was bad law.)
