Lydia Laurenson I think growing up Mormon can be more difficult for women, as the roles they're expected to fill are so narrow (wife/mother).  Men have a lot more leeway, at least careerwise. On the whole, the main downside I experienced was deep guilt/shame for my sexual desires and lack of skills in dating.  It took several years after leaving the church to fully break free of that.
