Jonathan Shapiro Advanced AI will still be constrained by the laws of physics. The chip manufacturing plants required by AI's are massive and cost billions of dollars to build. The metals in the chips must be mined at great cost, then purified and processed. New techniques must be researched and invented, for packing more processing power into ever denser volumes, while dissipating heat fast enough not to melt. We're expecting that AI's will be capable of doing all of the above, yet at the same time, lack sufficient meta-rationality to not turn the earth into paper clips?
