Scott Church Yeah, that is a worry. But keep in mind that coal plants are continually spewing radioactive material into the air all of the time, ie similar to exploding "dirty bombs" 24/7. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/coal-ash-is-more-radioactive-than-nuclear-waste/ The primary risk of a dirty bomb is the explosion itself with some added harm caused by panic from a nuclearphobic public. Powerful explosives are readily available. If you can get fertilizer and diesel fuel, you can make ANFO or a fuel/air bomb. Thankfully, even terrorists don't seem to make use of bombs that often. (Though I don't know how many near misses there are.)
