I don't recall feeling smug, though I can't say I've never felt it. I feel shame, but only when I feel like I've failed my own standards. Expressions of disapproval for expressing taboo beliefs or threats to socially ostracize me leave me unmoved. (Generally, I feel contempt for attempts to emotionally manipulate me, instead of using appeals to facts/logic.) Aggressive sales tactics enrage me. I feel disgust, but I seem to feel it at a lower degree of intensity than most. (I don't mind working with dead people/blood/sewage, for example, though of course, I use proper PPE to protect myself from disease risk.) I feel anxiety at a higher degree of intensity than most, especially in social situations. (Most people also seem to feel a lot more blasé about their rapidly approaching death than I do. )
