Yes, sailing is dangerous. Yes, the food sometimes isn't great, especially if you're on a budget. Yes, sailing can be lonely, especially for kids. But she sounds like a petulant whiner who doesn't appreciate the knowledge and experiences her parents gave her. Among other things, she learned how to sail, run a charter business, educate herself, entertain herself. After her childhood, she could live and work almost anywhere in the world and support herself. Lots of kids learn without schools. And there was a constant stream of charter guests, but she made no friends? The close quarters and lack of alternative activities foster conversation. And she was sailing for 10 years, they must have spent a large amount of time onshore, seeing sights and sounds that most children never see. Many kids are "trapped" in environments that don't change much, and have little choice about the activities they must do. If she'd been raised on a rural family farm, she'd no doubt be whinging about how she had to get up in freezing temperatures to milk the cows. Or that time an unruly cow kicked her in the head. And she'd be just as unappreciative of what she was learning and experiencing.
