[Apologies for the weird spelling below. FB heavily throttles all cr*ypto / FB-alternative related posts, and I'm trying to bypass those filters.]

N*ostr isn't perfect. Like many projects created by B*itcoin maxis, user privacy/anonymity is an afterthought.

However, n*ostr does solve the "friend capture" problem that all other social networks have, even federated projects like M*astodon.

On Facebook, your friends network is captured by the corporation. If you want to leave, you have to laboriously build up that network once again. These networks often take years to build, so many people are loathe to give them up. As a result, many FB users will put up with a lot of intrusive advertising, censorship, and crappy customer support before they leave.

On N*ostr, both your posts and friends network are stored independent of of any particular application or website.

So, if you decide you don't like a particular website / or they boot you out, you can easily take all of your friends and your posts with you.

IMO, nostr is the beginning of a shift in power from corporations back to users, similar to the growth of the open source software movement. People will increasing look askance at companies that try to hold your friend's network hostage.

Another nice side effect is that you can use the same keys to login to any website.

If you'd like to try n*ostr out, I've put my public key and a few links to tutorials below.
