As I understand it, under the nostr protocol, your posts are stored by a number of relays, and as long as at least one relay is storing it, your content will be available.

However, if no relays are storing it, then it will disappear. You can host your own relay, and broadcast your own content, but that's not done by default.

I would like to store my notes more permanently.

Most storage networks (such as filecoin, sia, and storj) require ongoing payments to store your data.

However, the arweave network is designed to store notes for at least 200 years for a one time fee. The fee acts like an endowment fund that generates enough interest to cover the estimated cost of storage (given very conservative estimates about the future cost of storage).
