While I think AI will indeed cause massive cultural / biological changes, I don't think it's reasonable to expect that AI's will wipe us out.   Many less intelligent animals continue to exist, despite the evolution of humans.  AI's will perfect nuclear power and space travel and will spread out into the rest of the (mostly empty) solar system.  Biohumans won't be competing with AI's for resources for long.
