Nice essay! I agree that the FTX/OpenAI affair have been blown out of proportion, and that EA's have not been given enough credit for their positive accomplishments. However, I would classify most of the things EA's have done in AI to date as harms, not achievements. Globally, approximately 115,000 people die everyday of aging. If EA's delay the cure for aging for just a month (by delaying the development of AI's capable of significantly advancing the state of the art of aging research), they would likely have caused far more deaths than they have saved lives to date.
