Paul C. Jeffries Yes, crime can be very context dependent.  That said, when I lived in East Oakland, the body of a murder victim was cut in half and dumped on the street outside my place.  And one of my roommates was beaten and mugged.  Another was robbed at gunpoint by two "youths".  My roommates weren't doing anything untoward except living in the "bad" part of town.
