Who goes to McDonald's for the ambiance? I don't recall the waitstaff at a McDonald's ever offering or trying to offer human connection. The point of the restaurant is inexpensive, predictable, fast food. If you want personable human waiters and comfortable well-lit dining you go to a different class of restaurant / coffee shop.
