> Mrs. Lyons: "Let me guess, the orphans need a new roof." > Tillman: "Well probably, but I'm more of a "let the orphans fight each other for sport" kind of guy. Libertarian, so..." The orphan's line is funny, but not something a libertarian would say. Libertarians think the state has a limited role at best. But if it has any legitimate purpose, it's to enforce laws against the initiation of violence. Allowing orphans to assault each other is inconsistent with that role. Tillman's a "law and order" sherriff. Do you know any libertarians in that kind of job? He enforces the drug war, at a minimum. (Gator brags about all of the drugs the cops have in the evidence locker.) I've also never heard libertarians talk about their wives being the property of the husband. There's also Lorraine's line: "So... you want freedom with no responsibility. " Libertarians think that everyone has a responsibility to provide for themselves, not suck at the teat the state. It's liberals who deny that the poor and minorities should be held responsible for their behavior. In any case, Tillman's a conservative, not a libertarian. Tillman's line comes across as a lazy, disingenuous liberal's attempt to paint libertarians as conservatives. It's shitty writing, as there are plenty of actual libertarian beliefs they could've made fun of. Ron Swanson on Parks and Rec, for example, actually speaks and behaves the way a libertarian might.
