Less than 600 players are in the NBA. Another 400 or so in the NBA G-league (NBA's minor leagues). NBA G league players make $40 K/year. The typical NBA career lasts ~5 years. By contrast, there are ~4 million K-12 teachers in the US. The average teachers makes a salary of $70 K/year + 30% benefits (pension, health insurance, etc). It's extremely difficult to fire a teacher, and many teachers teach until age 65. So, while it's true that NBA players make millions, it's vastly easier to make a good living teaching than playing basketball.
