For obvious reasons, charitable foundations tend to favor the young. Young people have 30 - 55 years of healthy life ahead of them. Most young people haven\'t had time to save money or build connections. So giving them a boost maximizes the impact of your donation.\

However, old people aren\'t dead yet! At 50, a typical person has 20 - 25 years of healthy life left. And investment charities for old people are relatively rare. So, even though a donation is spread over fewer years, it could still have a bigger impact than creating yet another scholarship for the young.
