Youtube has turned the thumbscrews on guntubers again. This time they're going after any guntuber who has financial sponsors in the gun industry (which is most of the big guntubers). For example, Hickock45 says all of his videos since June 18 have been deleted and that any videos uploaded before June 18 might be censored. (He says that subsequent talks indicate that there is some way that new videos can be uploaded, but doesn't provide details.) The new policy states: "Policies on content featuring firearms YouTube prohibits certain kinds of content featuring firearms. Specifically, we don’t allow content that: Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales (e.g., private sales by individuals) or links to sites that sell these items. These accessories include but may not be limited to accessories that enable a firearm to simulate automatic fire or convert a firearm to automatic fire (e.g., bump stocks, gatling triggers, drop-in auto sears, conversion kits), and high capacity magazines (i.e., magazines or belts carrying more than 30 rounds). Provides instructions on manufacturing a firearm, ammunition, high capacity magazine, homemade silencers/suppressors, or certain firearms accessories such as those listed above. This also includes instructions on how to convert a firearm to automatic or simulated automatic firing capabilities. Shows users how to install the above-mentioned accessories or modifications." One important section states, “…links to sites that sell these items.” This means if a gun channel links to any company that sells firearms, that channel can be found in violation of the new YouTube firearms policy. Youtube has demonstrated its hostility to the gun community for some time, and it's only going to get worse. All guntubers better start backing up their channels immediately, and start working building your audience on a platform where you can't be censored. I recommend checking out the following projects youtube-dl (#yt-dlp) - commandline tool to download and backup Youtube channels monero (@MoneroTalk) - private, p2p, censorship electronic cash monero subscriptions wallet (@LukeProfitsX) - a Monero wallet that automatically pays subscriptions. nostr (@LynAldenContact) - p2p, censorship resistant social network keet dot io (@keet_io) - p2p video streaming platform arweave (@arweaveeco) - store your videos in a decentralized, censorship resistant fashion for 200+ years for a one time fee odysee (@OdyseeTeam) - Youtube-like competitor (uses Arweave as a backend) stamp (#stampprotocol) - decentralized cryptographic identity system (useful for age-verification) Of course, learning how to use the tools above, and building an audience on a different platform will take work and time. Hickock45 complains that other gun-friendly venues such as Rumble don't have nearly the audience that Youtube does. And that's true. But it doesn't matter if Youtube is the biggest platform, if they're going to censor your videos or close your account. You also can't spend the money you earn if the government coerces your bank to freeze your bank account. The same people who colluded to censor users in 2020 on behalf of the Democrats still control most social media firms (X, Rumble, Parler, and Gab being notable exceptions). I expect that they will ramp up the censorship again, now that the odds favor Trump winning the election. The new policy states:

"Policies on content featuring firearms

YouTube prohibits certain kinds of content featuring firearms. Specifically, we don’t allow content that:

Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales (e.g., private sales by individuals) or links to sites that sell these items.

Shows users how to install the above-mentioned accessories or modifications."

Youtube has demonstrated its hostility to the gun community for some time, and it's only going to get worse.
