# Steven Postrel Patreon, Twitter, Reddit, and Youtube were pretty free...

*July 21, 2024 — Comment Archer T. Ships replied to Steven Postrel's comment.*

Steven Postrel Patreon, Twitter, Reddit, and Youtube were pretty free wheeling during their initial growth phase as well, but became more censorious over time. Substack already censors porn, and their TOS allow them to change the terms unilaterally at any time for any reason. And they depend on banks and payment processors who will cut them off if they don't toe the line. Look what happened to Wikileaks. All of the banks, credit cards, and payment processors cut them off. They were only able to accept donations via Bitcoin for a while. If they use a US based DNS, they can be cut off that way as well (as happened to Sci-hub, Pirate Bay, and other sites).
