James Guzman The concepts of land and property have existed across many cultures for thousands of years. There were no significant national restrictions on immigration prior for the first 100 years of the US existence. The first restrictions (the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882) were driven by white union members who hated competing with Chinese laborers who were willing to work harder for less money. That hostility to competition continues to this day, and drives much of the hatred of Mexican, Chinese, and Indian immigrants. Anti-semitism drove the FDR administration to block six million Jews from fleeing the Nazi gas chambers. So don't try to sell me this bullshit that immigration suppression laws were driven by a desire to protect western notions of property rights.
